Rebuilding credit after bankruptcy

Bankruptcy can be reported for up to 10 years (CFPB). What often goes wrong is how the discharged accounts are reported afterwards.

After discharge, check that…

  • Discharged accounts show a $0 balance and "included in bankruptcy"
  • No new late payments are reported after the filing date
  • Collectors aren't reporting debts that were discharged

Rebuild step by step

Secured cards, credit-builder loans and on-time payments help you build again. We are not attorneys: for questions about filing bankruptcy itself, talk to a bankruptcy lawyer.
