Building credit from zero
No history isn't bad credit. It just means lenders can't see you yet. These are legal, proven ways to start.
Tools that work
- Secured credit card, used lightly and paid in full
- Credit-builder loan from a bank or credit union
- Being added as an authorized user by someone with good habits
What to avoid
Never use a CPN ("credit privacy number") or an EIN in place of your own number to apply for personal credit. It is illegal and can be fraud.
